BACKGROUND
Farmers and Mercantile was established in 1996 and is one of the leading independent insurance brokerages specialising in farming in England, Scotland and Wales.
Our offices in Northamptonshire, Shropshire, Yorkshire and Ayrshire are all staffed with farm insurance teams that are knowledgeable and expert in this field. Many of our staff have family farms and farming qualifications themselves. Our businesses’ success is in no small part due to the fact that our understanding of insurance is equalled by our farming knowledge.
We have a customer retention rate of over 98% (probably one of the highest in the industry), we firmly believe this is because we offer ‘the best all round deal’ Service, Price, Cover and Reliability.
FOUNDER
Farmers and Mercantile was founded by Nigel Wellings, a graduate of the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. Nigel’s aim from the start was to offer an alternative independent service and this still stands true today.
Nigel manages the company overseeing a staff of 51 (click here to meet our team), he plays an integral role within the farm insurance market, ensuring that products and cover for new on-farm schemes are available and that farming risks are insurable.
Farmers and Mercantile aim to provide the most competitive premiums with the widest cover available, over the past decade we have saved farmers many millions of pounds compared to the premiums they were previously being charged.
