Farm Security Measures - A look at our clients security measures in action

Farm Security Measures - protect your farming equipment - Fendt Tractor In August a client foiled the attempted theft of three John Deere tractors by having immobilisers fitted to each vehicle. The thieves took down fencing and drove across fields and ripened crops to gain access to the yard where they were kept. The thieves went to work on each of the vehicles in turn but the security measure of the immobiliser prevented them from being started.

While the gang went away empty handed on that occasion, a week later they targeted a farm in the neighbouring village and went away with a £40,000 John Deere Tractor of the same spec as our client. This tractor was not fitted with an immobiliser.

When advising on security measures we believe it is preferable to not have your machine taken at all. Should a thief succeed in stealing your machine, a Tracker is an additional option to help recover the vehicle.

A client recently had a lorry and hiab stolen. The gang cut through two gates and chains and stripped the lorry of all advertising stickers and logo’s. Twenty minutes later when the vehicle was on the move the tracker alerted the client by phone.  He could track the movements of his lorry by PC and alerted the police. The thieves stopped briefly at a camp and continued for twenty five miles to Rugby where police found the lorry at another encampment but it was without its hiab.
The client investigated the camp where the lorry had stopped and spotted the hiab. After ringing the police they arrived in minutes to help retrieve the attachment. On entering the camp other stolen machines and vehicles were discovered worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

This case highlights the effectiveness of tracker systems in retrieving stolen machines.  When considering the days down time and cost of repairs involved in a theft it is preferable for the machine not be taken. We recommend that by pairing two security measures such as an immobiliser and a tracker you can best defend against the trauma of having a machine stolen.

Tracking System

We recommend an immobiliser system for tractors that costs in the region of £150 per vehicle along with a tracking system at a cost of some £250. Click for more details of our Farm Vehicle Tracker & Immobiliser Offers
