Protect against Tractor Thefts
Tractor theft is escalating and many farmers are on high alert!
One recent case in Rutland involved a farm where 3 machines had been stolen in one night. The farmer was livid & worried. In this case the farmer was extremely relieved (and lucky) to have all 3 machines recovered within 2 days.
Sadly, in the majority of cases, the machines are not recovered and are moved out of the country very quickly.
There appears to be no preference as to the make and model of tractor or telehandler being stolen. No farm is immune. As new and second-hand tractor values increase it is vital that farmers
- check insurance cover to make certain that insurances are for the full market value of the machinery / equipment
- ensure cover for the hire of a replacement machine is in place
Farmers must take action to protect their machinery. Even if adequately insured, the downtime created by having to find a replacement hire tractor at a busy time of the year with the right tyres, spool valves and electrics fitted to it can be considerable. Manufacturers at the moment appear to do little, we advise that you take advantage of the protection that fitting a tractor alarm and immobiliser provides.
