Cattle coming in for Winter

…and vaccinated against pneumonia!

This week has been another busy one, everything is hectic at home preparing for the cattle to be brought inside for the winter. All the calves are looking well and have really bulked up over the past few weeks. We have been very organised this year and have vaccinated all the cattle against pneumonia. Here in the Vale of York we can suffer with a lot of misty mornings and low cloud coverage. We were fortunate enough to not suffer to badly from pneumonia last year but a lot of farms nearby did. We are not going to be taking any chances this year!

Sunday was a very long day! The F&M Ripon office gang had a well-deserved night out on Saturday. September was a difficult month for the office with a lot of our clients seeking alternative quotations, but with everyone’s hard work it turned out to be very successful one. The evening was really fun and allowed us all to let our hair down. Who said insurance was boring?!

On Tuesday evening I attended the local meeting for the Royal Agricultural Benevolence Institute (R.A.B.I). The committee meets every 6 weeks or so to arrange various fundraising events for the charity. The R.A.B.I support farming families and communities in times of need or crisis. In November we are hosting a Strictly Come Dancing Dinner Dance. We have 6 unwilling couples, including myself, to learn and perform a routine. I will be dancing the Jive with my friend Sam, who works at Frank Curtis an agricultural machinery dealers. Dancing lessons are due to start next week, fingers crossed everyone!
