Engineering Inspections for Plant & Construction Users

F&M’s engineering division

F&M’s engineering division was established in 2009 as a direct response to the requirement of a dedicated testing and inspection service from industry experienced, skilled and competent inspection engineers. All F&M inspection engineers undergo extensive and ongoing training and all are certified by Lloyds British. This ensures F&M engineers are fully conversant with latest compliance standards, and therefore clients meet all requirements of the Health & Safety Executive.

Safety First

F&M Group Machinery Inspection With one of the highest fatal injury statistics of any industry in the UK, it has never been more crucial for the construction sector to ensure fully qualified engineering inspections are implemented and meet Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.

Over the last five years there has been an average of 43 fatal injuries per year to workers in the construction industry. Unwise risk-taking is an underlying problem. However much experience an employer and operator may have, accidents can still happen, specifically those relating to machinery failure.

Inspecting machinery and maintaining inspection renewals is crucial to the delivery of a safe and effective working environment, and it is essential this work is undertaken by qualified and experienced engineers, fully conversant with the latest HSE regulations.

F&M Inspection Engineers

With a team of inspectors covering the whole of the UK from its head office in Northamptonshire, F&M Plant & Construction engineering division provides comprehensive inspection services to the construction and plant hire industry. Providing the complete package including site visits, inspections, reports and renewal reminders, F&M will ensure your responsibilities are met within a competitive price structure.

F&M hands-on machinery inspectionA feature of the F&M inspection service is the hands-on approach at all stages of the inspection process. All inspectors carry a copy of F&M engineering divisions Risk Assessment and Method Statement in order to gain site access, and are always happy to liaise with site managers prior to and during visits. The aim is to generate certificates within 48 hours and these are emailed to the client, this can even be expedited if required.

Clients have a dedicated account manager based at F&M’s head office, acting as a direct point of contact and to manage inspection renewals and contact clients prior to any due date.

F&M’s engineers can cover multiple inspection requirements including PSSR (Pressure System Safety Regulation 2000), PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998) and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998). All engineers undergo extensive training, hold CITB certificates and constantly monitor HSE regulations.

The Machinery Inspection and Reports

The inspections are designed not only to identify performance compromising issues with the potential to become dangerous, but also to provide each machine with a comprehensive service history. The engineering certificate is evidence that the machine has been well maintained and that it is in good, safe working order.

From an insurance perspective if a machine is stolen or involved in an accident, the reports produced by F&M will again provide evidence as to its general condition, operating hours and any advisory issues that have been acted upon, and will help therefore to establish its true value. F&M hold inspection reports electronically, meaning they are available whenever and wherever required.

Accidents will be investigated by HSE and if any areas of negligence are identified prosecutions and fines will follow. Even if renewals are not due, F&M welcomes enquiries and will send a no-obligation quote with a reminder closer to the renewal date.
